Heidi, a second generation German-American, was born into a family that encouraged a strong work ethic and excellence in academics. Growing up in Columbus, Ohio, Heidi's German background encouraged her early interest in the language and culture. In college, Heidi spent a semester abroad in Hamburg, Germany, during which time she studied at the University of Hamburg and worked for an international chemical company. Following her graduation with a degree in German Studies in 1991, Heidi opted to pursue a career in law rather than in teaching. The choice proved to be a fortuitous one, as Heidi excelled in law school where she served as an editor of the law review. Heidi launched her legal career in Los Angeles in 1994 after she was selected to participate in the Attorney General's Honors Program at the U.S. Department of Justice where she focused on immigration law issues. Although she enjoyed representing the federal government and spending her free time traveling throughout California, Heidi found herself moving back to the Midwest a few years later to be closer to family and friends.
Upon her return to the Midwest, Heidi joined a large law firm as a corporate transactional lawyer, where she focused her practice on information technology and finance transactions and corporate mergers and acquisitions. As years of practice began to accumulate under her belt, Heidi found her interests gravitating more and more toward the technology transactions field, which is her main area of practice today. Her general corporate background and training, in addition to her technology transactions experience, provides Heidi with a well-rounded perspective from which to advise the firm's clients. Married with two young children, Heidi enjoys spending her free time with her family and friends, as well as traveling, skiing and reading.
